Duties and Responsibilities of Officers and Staff of FSI
Director General (DG)
- The Director General is the Head of the Department of the Institute as specified in Schedule I of Delegation of Financial Powers Rules, 1978 and being so responsible for smooth functioning of all the Divisions of the Institute viz. Scientific, Technical, Administrative and Finance in general.
- The Director General being the Head of the Institute with academic background in fisheries science is responsible to implement the Government policies on Marine Fisheries by proper planning.
- Responsible for conduct of Fisheries Resources Survey in the EEZ by deployment of a fishing fleet.
- Providing leadership in conducting biological studies of the various species as also for Scientific, technical, managerial and operational functionaries of the Institute.
- Providing leadership to the unit responsible for collection of data by physical resources survey and its dissemination.
- Functioning as an Advisor to the Government on Marine Fishery Resources, its exploitation, conservation, etc. as also as a Representative of the Government in Committees, Delegations, etc. concerning fisheries.
Dy. Director General (Fy) (DDG (Fy))
- He would assist the Director General, Fishery Survey of India, for the proper and timely planning, programming, scheduling and implementation of the fishery survey programme.
- He will be responsible for systematic collection of data by ensuring participation of Scientists in cruises; Storage, retrieval and dissemination of marine fishery resource information on periodical basis. He will also ensure that the survey vessels are provided with requisite fishing gear and accessories and make necessary plans and schedules for the procurement of the same.
- He would provide requisite scientific leadership to the fishery scientists in the field and give necessary directions to the Zonal Directors and other Fishery Scientists.
- Any other duties as assigned to him from time to time by the Director General.
Dy. Director General (Engg) (DDG (Engg))
- Head of the Engineering Division of the Institute.
- As Head of the Division he is responsible for planning, scheduling and monitoring of the routine, planned and breakdown maintenance/repairs of the machineries of the vessels and other shore machineries.
- Responsible for the proper functioning of the departmental workshops and their optimum utilization.
- Guiding the Director (Engg), Mechanical Marine Engineers and Service Engineers (Mech.) and other Engineering officers working at Headquarters and Base offices in technical matters.
- Responsible for overall inventory control of spares, tools, equipments, etc. and timely procurement and proper storage of imported spares.
- Planning and implementing of development activities like setting up of infrastructure facilities, acquisition of vessels, etc.
- Preparation of budget, annual report and other technical reports in respect of Engineering Section of the Headquarters.
- Technical guidance in the matters pertaining to the Engineering, Administration and Accounts.
- Participating in technical committees of the Institute.
- Maintaining a liaison with Director General (Shipping)/MMD regarding registration and other statutory requirements of vessels.
- Periodical inspection of the Base offices.
- Organizing In-house training programme for the Engineering staff of Fishery Survey of India.
Director (Engg)
- He would assist the Director General/Dy. Director General (Engg.) in the matters of proper and timely maintenance/repairs of all survey vessels and their machines and equipments including planning, scheduling of periodical under water repairs as required.
- He would ensure that all statutory requirements of vessels such as LSA/FFA Survey, Registration etc., are carried out as per rules without disruption to the survey programme of the vessels.
- He will supervise the overall Inventory control of spares, tools, equipment etc., and their timely procurement, proper storage and accounting done by Service Engineer (I&C).
- He would be responsible for the proper functioning of the departmental workshop and their optimum utilization for the maintenance and repairs of the vessels.
- He would be responsible for monitoring of fleet operation, fleet maintenance and accomplishment of planned and scheduled overall engineering/technical works
- Any other duties assigned to him from time to time by Director General/Dy. Director General (Engineering)
Zonal Director (ZD)
- He will be responsible for the scientific, technical, administrative and financial functions of Zonal base to the Director General and exercise the powers as Head of Office.
- He will report to the Dy. Director General (Fisheries) regarding progress of fishery resources survey and to the Dy. Director General (Engg.) on matters related to the maintenance and repairs of fishing vessels and related aspects.
- He will be responsible for the successful implementation of the survey programme assigned to the base and provide requisite, leadership to the technical, scientific and operational functionaries working under him.
- He will represent the institute in Committees etc. as and when nominated by the Director General and maintain liaison with the State Government and Fishing Industry in the area.
- He will be responsible for accomplishment of Planned work /allotted work
- He will be responsible for accomplishment of timely work/unforeseen task.
- He should possess knowledge of Rules/Regulations/procedures in the area of function and ability to apply them correctly. He should possess strategic planning ability.
- Any other duties assigned from time to time by Director General.
System Analyst
- He will be in charge of the EDP Cell of the Institute / Headquarters.
- He will be primarily responsible for the design in House development & running of suitable software packages for Scientific Programmes related to fishery survey; Other aspects of application of the computer viz, inventory control, personnel management, management of information system etc.
- He will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the computer systems available at the Headquarters by taking necessary action for servicing/maintenance etc. at the appropriate time..
- He will be responsible for the planning for up-gradation of the systems at the right stage and shall be responsible for the submission of the project as well as the feasibility reports required for the purpose.
- The responsibility for evolving suitable data storage and retrieval system for the management of data rests with him.
- He is responsible for custody and maintenance of resource survey data, preparation of data products, up keep of institute web-site and computer networking
- He is responsible for acquisition, maintenance and upgradation of hardware / software and maintaining its related correspondence.
- He should evolve a suitable management information system (MIS) for providing requisite information to senior officers of the Institute for planning, programming, monitoring etc.
Sr. Fisheries Scientist (SFS)
- Participation in fishing cruises. Will be responsible for cruise leadership and collection of requisite data during survey cruises.
- Preparation of cruise reports and other reports related to the operation of the survey vessels. Preparation of scientific notes and articles based on observation and data collected during survey.
- Preparation of cruise plan and research programmes. Implementation of survey programme and participation in vessel management.
- Preparation of estimates of gear material required for implementation of survey programme and provide technical inputs for improvement of fishing gear for survey programme.
- Carrying out identification of fish and conducting required biological investigation for qualitative and quantitative assessment of fish stock in time and space.
- Any other duties assigned from time to time by the Zonal Director, including participation in extension activities, supervision of disposal of fish catch, etc.
Mechanical Marine Engineer (MME)
- He will be responsible for planning, execution & overall supervision of the repairs and maintenance of the Fishing fleet including the dry docking repairs of the vessels attached to the base.
- He would ensure timely action in renewal of L.S.A. & F.F.A. certificates of the vessel.
- He is responsible for arranging timely procurement of spare parts and stores required for the vessels.
- He would ensure proper functioning of departmental workshop.
- He is responsible for repairs of office equipments, vehicles and maintenance of office building.
- He is responsible for arrangements for survey of the vessels by M.M.D..
- Any other duties assigned from time to time by the Zonal Director/Head of Office/Head of Department.
Sr. Administrative Officer (Sr.AO)
- Overall In-charge of all the Establishment matters of the Department which fall within the purview of the Head of the office and rendering assistance to the Head of the Department in all the administrative matters of the Headquarters and the Base offices located at Porbandar, Mumbai, Mormugao, Cochin, Chennai, Visakhapatnam and Port Blair.
- Functioning as Head of the Office of the Headquarters with exercise of the administrative and financial powers incumbent to the Head of the Office under FR & SR, CCS (Conduct) Rules, 1964, CCS (CCA) Rules, 1965, CCS (Leave) Rules, 1972, CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972, DFPR, 1972, etc.
- Overall Incharge for general maintenance of the office and procurement of all the office equipments, furniture, consumable & non-consumable items, stationery etc. required for the office and petrol/diesel and lubricants required for the vehicles including attestation of stock entries and certification of the purchase as well as the repair Bills.
- Responsible to deal with all the intricate administrative cases of the Headquarters as well as the Bases.
Statistician:
- He will be in charge of the statistics cell at the Headquarters of the Institute
- He will be primarily responsible for collection of data on Marine Fisheries Resources, cost of operation of vessels, performance statistics of vessels etc. by evolving suitable design for the same.
- He should ensure receipt and scrutiny of various information from the Bases as per the time-frame stipulated.
- He will be primarily responsible for the custody and upkeep of the data collected from the Bases.
- He is responsible for analysis of industrial fishery vessels data, data pertaining to longline / experimental surveys, hypothesis testing and statistical modeling for marine fisheries.
- He will be responsible for the processing and statistical interpretation of the data required for the preparation of fishery charts and other publication of the organization; of the data required for the feedback information of the Senior officers of the organization in discharging their functions such as monitoring the performance of the survey vessels of the Institute based on the periodical reports received from the bases.
- He is responsible for preparation of annual report, performance budget, quantitative review, five year plans etc.
- He should assist the System Analyst in evolving a suitable Management information System (MIS) and suitable storage and retrieval system for the management of the data.
- He will be primarily responsible for the preparation of display charts, slides etc for exhibitions, meeting, workshop etc.
Fisheries Scientist (FA)
- Participation in fishing cruises. Responsible for cruise leadership and collection of requisite data during survey cruises.
- Preparation of cruise reports and other reports based on the survey data.
- Carrying out identification of fish and conducting required biological investigations for qualitative and quantitative assessment of fish stock in time and space.
- Any other duties assigned from time to time by Zonal Director.
Service Engineer (Mech) (SE(M))
- The Service Engineer (Mech) shall assist the Mech. Marine Engineer/Head of Office of the Zonal Base of Fishery Survey of India or the Deputy Director General (Engg) on all engineering matters.
- He shall be responsible for supervision of works in the departmental workshops maintenance & repairs including dry docking repairs of the vessels attached to the Base. He shall extract the work from the store clerk/store keeper and be responsible for the safe custody of stores, maintenance of proper stock register/ cardex etc. in regard to purchase and issue of stores.
- When the vessels are at shore, in the jetty, he shall visit the vessels daily and ascertain the repairs, if any and initiate action for carrying out the repairs as expeditiously as possible to avoid loss of fishing days.
- He shall supervise all repairs and maintenance of vessels and ensure that the works are carried out satisfactorily and certify the bills accordingly.
- He should have the capacity to take decision at his level on matters pertaining to his level on matters pertaining to his area of works.
- He shall make arrangements for safety survey of the vessels by M.M.D.
- He should have strategic planning and execution ability.
- He shall initiate procurement action in respect of stores and spare parts, lubricating oils, HSD etc. required for upkeep and maintenance of fishing vessels well in advance.
Service Engineer (Inventory & Control)
- He shall set up specific and qualified norms of inventory of materials, fuels, lubricants, spare parts and other consumables.
- He shall convert the inventory norms to specially spelled out parameters and monitor the same.
- He is responsible to set up inventory control system by adopting scientific practices and modern techniques in inventory control.
- He shall set up inventory control, fixing order level and quantity offered etc. applying the Statistics of lead time, consumption average etc.
- He shall make use of the computer system by creating information flow of basic data from base offices and to give back inventory records for management decisions.
- To organize and control retrieval and disposal of surplus, obsolete, scraped and damaged items.
Service Engineer (Electronics)
- He is responsible for the maintenance of all the Electronic equipments on board the vessels of the Institute.
- He will ensure that the equipments on board the vessels are maintained in good condition so that effectiveness of the survey operation is not lost.
- He will be touring from his prescribed Headquarters and carry out the repairs of these equipments as and when reported.
- He shall keep himself abreast of the latest IMO regulation and rules laid down by Director General (Shipping) regarding the electronic equipments on board and suggest up-gradation of equipments to suit the latest regulations/rules like GMDSS from time to time.
- He shall establish an Electronic Workshop/Service Centre at each Zonal Base with the necessary facilities/equipments required for the repairs/servicing of Electronic equipments on board the vessels without depending on the outside agencies.
- He will report to the Mech. Marine Engineer of the respective Base for the spare parts inventory/procurement and initiate action through Mech. Marine Engineer.
- A monthly Report on his job and the condition of the equipments will be submitted to the Director (Engg.)/Dy. Director General (Engg.) through Mech. Marine Engineer.
- He will also be assisted by the Departmental workshop of respective Bases in his work.
- Any other work as assigned by his superior.
Fishing Gear Technologist (FGT)
- Assessment of the requirement of various types of fishing gear/gear material/accessories required for the Fishery Survey programme of the Vessels and their timely indenting procurement.
- In charge of the Gear Section and be responsible for the timely fabrication, mending and maintenance of Fishing Gear and ensuring requisite quality.
- Design, development, modification etc., of fishing Gear and accessories and performance evaluation of all gears.
- Participation in fishing cruises as and when required and any other duties assigned from time to time by superiors.
Junior Fisheries Scientist (JFS)
- Participation in fishing cruises and will be responsible for cruise leadership and collection of requisite date during survey cruises.
- Preparation of cruise reports and other reports related to the operation of the survey vessels.
- Preparation of scientific notes and articles based on observation and data collected during survey.
- Carry out identification of fish and conduct required biological and investigation for qualitative and quantitative assessment of fish stock in time and space.
- Any other duties assigned from time to time by the Zonal Director/officer including participation in extension activities, supervision of disposal of fish catch etc.
Programmer
- He will be responsible for the proper maintenance and upkeep of the computer systems in the organization and maintenance of requisite log for the same.
- He will be responsible for the operation of the computer systems independently including its peripherals.
- He will be responsible for the development of suitable softwares for scientific programmes related to fishery resource survey and fish stock assessment using Fortan and other languages.
- All other correlated functions such as safe custody of primary data evaluated and generated by the system etc.
- Maintenance of computer system in the organization and maintaining record logbook for the same.
- He will be responsible for acquisition and custody of hardware / up keep of data backups.
- Responsible for works related to primary data storage evaluation generated by the system.
- He will be responsible for dissemination of data and information available with FSI through FSI website.
- Any other duties assigned from time to time by the Director General.
Assistant Accounts Officer (AAO)
- Overall In charge of all the financial matters of the Institute including preparation of annual budget and monitoring of utilization of the budgetary grant by the Headquarters as well as the Bases.
- Functioning as a Drawing and Disbursing Officer of the Headquarters.
- Scrutiny of all proposals received from the Base offices and issuance of expenditure sanction for purchase of various stores, spares, equipments, etc.
- Scrutiny of applications for various advances like HBA, MCA, OMCA, etc. for according sanctions.
- Dealing with the matters of audit objections and the related correspondence.
- Scrutiny and approval of all the Bills - Pay Bills, TA Bills, MR Bills, Contingent Bills, etc.
Assistant Engineer (Workshop) - MED
- He will be practically overall incharge including supervision of work of workshop and Slipway.
- He is responsible to register work orders and maintain register of work for each vessel and shore installation. To distribute the daily work orders to the Foreman.
- To supervise the work personally where Foreman are not able to cope with the work and when the work calls for specialized attention.
- He is responsible to prepare cradle settings for slipping of vessels.
- To be incharge of the training programme for trainees of Service Mechanic Course. for control and supervision of all workshop staff working under him.
- He is responsible for timely preparation of proposal for new equipments, work orders, purchase orders and make annual surveys of the vessels and the extension of repairs.
- He is responsible to take part in the preparation of planned maintenance programmes for all vessels and take part in instruction of maintenance crows.
- He is responsible for submission of indents for the procurement of engineering stores and spares required for operation and maintenance of fishing vessels.
- Responsible for accomplishment of repair and maintenance of the vessels.
- Should have the knowledge in his sphere of technical works.
- He should have the ability to motivate and develop the skill in subordinates.
- Any other work assigned from time to time by Mech. Marine Engineer / Officer-in-charge.
Assistant Engineer (Design) - MED
- He is responsible for designing, fabricating and trying out gadgets for advancement of technology in respect of fittings and equipments on board fishing vessels, equipments for processing, equipments for cheaper and efficient transport of marine products, equipments for diversified fishing methods etc.
- He will be In-charge of the drawing office and design cell.
- He is responsible to report the Mechanical Marine Engineer.
- Any other duties assigned by Mech. Marine Engineer and Officer-in-Charge.
Service Technologist - MED
- He will be in charge of the (LSA) & Life Raft Servicing Centre.
- He will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of life rafts on board the vessels of the Project and life saving appliances and for getting approval of the rafts, LSA equipments etc. from the Mercantile Marine Department.
- He would ensure that all statutory requirements of vessels such as LSA/FFA Survey, Registration etc., are carried out as per rules without disruption to the survey programme of the vessels.
- Responsible for annual servicing and periodical checking of the rafts and other LSA equipments.
- He will also undertake servicing of life rafts of other organizations.
- Any other duties assigned to him from time to time by Mech. Marine Engineer / Officer-in-Charge.
Data Entry Operator
- He will be responsible for compilation of Fishing data received from various bases.
- He will be responsible for Data Processing and Programming evaluation by adopting modern statistical methods.
- He will be responsible for preparation of viability reports, publications of Bulletins etc.
- He will be responsible for receipt, custody, entry, validation and report generation of resources survey data.
- He will be responsible for preservation of Catch data sheets / Biological data sheets received from Bases. Collection and compilation of weekly, monthly and other periodical reports and monitoring of e-mails.
- He should look after the entry of operational details and expenditure details for generating cost involvement report etc.
- Any other assigned from time to time by Dy. Director General (Fy)/Director General.
Mechanical Supervisor (Sr.)
- He will be in charge of Departmental Workshop at Base Office.
- He is responsible to look after the repairs and maintenance of fishing vessels attached to the Bases.
- He is responsible for control and supervision of all workshop staff working under him.
- He is responsible for timely submission of indents for the procurement of engineering stores and spares required for operation and maintenance of fishing vessels.
- Responsible for accomplishment of repair and maintenance of the vessels.
- Should have the knowledge in his sphere of technical works.
- He should have the ability to motivate and develop the skill in subordinates.
- Any other work assigned from time to time by Mech. Marine Engineer/Service
- Engineer (M)/Officer-in-charge.
Sr. Scientific Assistant
- Participation in fishing cruises and will be responsible for cruise leadership and collection of requisite data during survey cruises.
- Preparation of cruise reports and other reports related to the operation of the survey vessels. Preparation of scientific notes and articles based on observation and data collected during survey.
- Carry out identification of fish and conduct required biological and investigation for qualitative and quantitative assessment of fish stock in time and space.
- Any other duties assigned from time to time by the Zonal Director/officer including participation in extension activities, supervision of disposal of fish catch etc.
Jr. Fishing Gear Technologist
- He will be In-charge of the Gear Section and be responsible for the timely fabrication, mending and maintenance of Fishing Gear and ensuring requisite quality.
- He will be responsible for Assessing the requirement of various types of fishing gear/gear material/accessories.
- Responsible to provide assistance for preparation of Fishery Survey programme.
- Timely indenting the fishing gear materials and accessories required for the Vessels and ensuring its procurement.
- Responsible for Designs, development, modification etc., of fishing Gear and accessories and performance evaluation.
- Participation in fishing cruises as and when required.
- Responsible for qualitative and quantitative improvement of fishery survey programme
- Any other duties assigned by superiors from time to time.
Office Superintendent
- Overall supervision of one of the Sections in the Headquarters and overall supervision of the Establishment Division in the Base office.
- The Establishment Sections deal with the recruitment, promotion, maintenance of recruitment rosters, communal rosters, screening of probation/confirmation cases, preparation of seniority lists, grant of financial upgradation under ACP/MACP Scheme, grant of leave, increments, pay fixation, preparation of pension papers, court cases, purchase of stores, spares, stationery, etc.
- Responsible to render all assistance to the Head of Office in the functioning of the office in general and in establishment matters in particular.
- Any other additional responsibilities assigned by the Head of the Department/Head of the Office from time to time.
Sr. Accountant
At the Headquarters:
- Supervision of the Accounts Section which deals with preparation of all kinds of bills, budget, examination of proposals from the Base Offices for expenditure sanctions, grant of all the advances to the employees and settlement of all the claims of the employees.
- Responsible to oversee the maintenance of the Registers viz. Pay Bill registers, Contingent Registers, Appropriation Registers, Bill Registers, Advance Registers, etc. and checking of the entries of daily transactions in the Cash Book.
- Rendering assistance to the Assistant Accounts Officer in all the financial matters.
At the Base Office:
- Supervision of the Accounts Section which deals with preparation of all kinds of bills, budget, grant of all the advances to the employees and settlement of all the claims of the employees.
- Responsible to oversee the maintenance of the Registers viz. Pay Bill Registers, Contingent Registers, Appropriation Registers, Bill Registers, Advance Registers, etc. and checking of the entries of daily transactions in the Cash Book.
- Rendering assistance to the Assistant Accounts Officer who is also the Drawing and Disbursing Officer in all the financial matters.
Translator
- Providing assistance in implementation of official language.
- Translation work including translation of Bulletins etc.
Stenographer Gr.I
- Responsible to keep note of appointments and meetings of HOD / HOO.
- Responsible to take dictation and to feed the required data etc. in the computer.
- Responsible to receive confidential communications and to maintain Confidential Inward Register.
- Correspondence regarding preparation and maintenance of APARs in respect of the Gazetted and Non-Gazetted Officers of the Department.
- Apart from stenography and secretarial work, responsible to deal with the Establishment, Accounts, Stores and other administrative matters, as assigned.
- Any other duties assigned from time to time by Head of Office.
Superintendent (PSC) - MED
- Responsible for planning, scheduling the operations and implementing the programmes by adopting proper control measures.
- He will be responsible for the purchase of store items, spare parts etc. He will be responsible for inviting quotations depicting specifications for stores/spares, repair jobs, new fabrications and its inspection. He will issue job orders and review the progress from time to time.
- Responsible for overall supervision of slipway facilities and workshop facilities including all the work pertaining to the workshop and slipway.
- He should collect information regarding the requirements of the slipway facilities and workshop by FSI sister organizations, public undertakings and private undertakings in advance and schedule the facilities according to priorities in consultation with and under directions from superior officers. He should carry out these functions in such a way that the available resources of man power facilities and financial allotments are utilized in the most efficient and profitable way.
- Responsible to render all assistance to the MME/Head of Office in functioning of the workshop matters in particular.
- Any other additional responsibilities assigned by the Head of the Department/Head of the Office from time to time.
Workshop Foreman - MED
- He is responsible for directly supervising the workshop staff of machine shop, welding section and carpentry section. Also responsible to supervise the staff during the vessels laid up for repairs.
- He is responsible for distributing the work as per instruction of superior officer and prepares the material estimates and spare parts for the job.
- He is responsible maintenance of registers of works, job cards and register of works and materials.
- He is responsible for supervising and maintenance of all machines and equipments in the workshop.
- He is responsible to supervise all the work on board the vessels and at the workshop such as overhaul of engines, pumps hydraulic winches, mechanical winches, steering gear, pipe works, body works and fabrication work etc.
- He will be under the control of Assistant Engineer / Mech. Marine Engineer.
Skipper
- Skipper in his capacity as master of fishery survey vessel will be responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel.
- Responsible for proper conduct of research/survey as per cruise plan survey programme preservation of fish catch and recording of catch data.
- Responsible to allocate/supervise the works of entire crew members including all officers on board the fishing vessels
- Skipper should ensure proper maintenance and operation of all equipment on board including fishing gear/LSA/FFA equipments etc.
- Responsible for the maintenance of log books/stores registers, duty registers and other records.
- Responsible to submit proper indent in advance for the supply of stores required for the conduct of satisfactory fishing operations.
- Responsible for proper maintenance of vessel and its sea worthiness. The entire responsibility for the safety of the life on board and Government property (Vessel) rests with the Skipper.
Chief Engineer Gr-I
- Overall supervision of the running, maintenance & repairs of various Engines & machineries of the fishing vessel including their dry docking repairs. Rendering assistance/guidance to the Head of Office in all the engineering matters.

- Overseeing the actions for timely renewal of L.S.A., F.F.A. certificates of the vessels and advance planning for submission of indents for procurement of spare parts, stores and various other items required for operation of the vessels.
- Responsible for routine inspection, preventive maintenance and break down maintenance of all the engines and machineries on board the vessel. The up-keep of the deck equipments (electrical, electronic) and the refrigeration system on board would also be under his control.
- Responsible for smooth operation of the entire propulsion system of the vessel so as to ensure conduct of survey operation of the vessel with strategic planning ability.
- Responsible for maintenance of the engine log book of the vessel and all other relevant records connected with Engine & Machineries.
- Any other duties assigned by his superiors from time to time.
Chief Engineer Gr-II
- Overall supervision of the running, maintenance & repairs of various Engines & machineries of the fishing vessel including their dry docking repairs. Rendering assistance/guidance to the Head of Office in all the engineering matters.

- Overseeing the actions for timely renewal of L.S.A., F.F.A. certificates of the vessels and advance planning for submission of indents for procurement of spare parts, stores and various other items required for operation of the vessels.
- Responsible for routine inspection, preventive maintenance and break down maintenance of all the engines and machineries on board the vessel. The up-keep of the deck equipments (electrical, electronic) and the refrigeration system on board would also be under his control.
- Responsible for smooth operation of the entire propulsion system of the vessel so as to ensure conduct of survey operation of the vessel with strategic planning ability.
- Responsible for maintenance of the engine log book of the vessel and all other relevant records connected with Engine & Machineries.
- Any other duties assigned by his superiors from time to time.
Mate Gr-I
- He will assist the Skipper for safe navigation of the vessel.
- He will assist the Skipper for proper conduct of the research/survey as per cruise plan/survey programme, recording of catch data and preservation of fish catches.
- He will assist Skipper in proper maintenance of vessels records such as stores registers, duty registers, etc.
- He will look after the proper maintenance and operation of all equipment on board including fishing gear LSA/FFA equipments.
- He will arrange watch duty on board the vessel.
- He will also carry out any other works as assigned by Skipper for proper navigation, survey operation and maintenance of vessels.
Slipway Foreman (Workshop) - MED
- He is responsible for directly supervising the slipway consisting of slipway, winch, cradle, pneumatic equipments, sand blasting equipment, chipping and painting equipment, chipping and painting equipment etc.
- He is responsible for supervising the slipping and launching of vessels setting and resetting of cradles, delisting of slipway, placing vessels on struts and supports and the maintenance of the bottom portion of vessels such as propeller work rudders stern gears, hull plate or plank renewal etc.
- He is responsible for distributing the work as per instruction of superior officer and prepares the material estimates, spare parts, preparation of indents and procurements of materials from stores.
- He is responsible maintenance of registers of works, job cards and register of works and materials.
- He is responsible for supervising and maintenance and repairs of all machines and equipments in the slipway such as compressors, winches, slipway or crane, bracing beams etc with a slipway.
- He is responsible to supervise all the work on board the vessels and at the workshop such as overhaul of engines, pumps hydraulic winches, mechanical winches, steering gear, pipe works, body works and fabrication work etc.

- Responsible for Repairs and Maintenance of Refrigeration systems of the fishing vessels/Laboratories and any other work assigned by his superiors.

- Responsible for Repairs and Maintenance of Electrical equipments on board the vessels and Departmental workshops and any other work assigned by the HOO.
Asstant Foreman (Engine & Equip) - MED
- He is responsible for supervising the repair jobs on board the fishing trawlers, dredger, crane etc.
- He is responsible to guide the Mechanic in an engine overhauling, trouble shooting and assembling.
- He is responsible for indenting of materials, spares and tools for repairs and overhauling.
- He is responsible for upkeeping of spares for repairs.

- He is responsible for supervising the ongoing welding jobs in the fishing trawler’s, dredgers etc.

- He is responsible for selecting the welding electrodes suitable to the material for welding, brazing etc.
- He is responsible for study of drawings for fabrication jobs.

Jr Librarian
- Responsible for assessment of requirements of the library books on the basis of the indents received.

- Physical custodian of Departmental library books by maintaining Accession Register and Issue Register.
Projector Operator
- Responsible for operation and maintenance of OHP and equipments attached.

Stenographer Gr-II
- Responsible to take dictation and to feed the required data etc. in the computer.
- Responsible to receive confidential communications and to maintain Confidential Inward Register.

- Responsible for servicing of inflatable liferaft’s HRU, Hydrostatic Release Unit etc.

- Responsible to Identify / maintain the life raft stores for servicing of life raft.

- The Mechanics in the slipway are responsible to attend the overhauling of engines and periodical servicing of engine accessories, spares.
- He is responsible for repairs and maintenance of all mechanical equipment in the workshop i.e Dredger, Cranes, Forklift truck, etc.
- He is responsible for repairs and maintenance of the project vessels, sister organization vessels and vessels of private and public sectors.
